Posted by Julie in : Technobabble , trackbackI’ve been playing with the Pirates app over on Facebook and have been rapidly rising up the levels. I’m now a level 17 Corsair pirate with 10 crew on my ship. I’m pretty positive that piracy was a career I could have excelled at - too bad you can just up and join Captain Jack Sparrow these days, eh?
Since I can’t, I’ve decided to really get the Etsy shop up and running. To do this in the grand pirate style which it deserves, however, we need a kickass banner. I have played around with GIMP, but I am obviously a real-life gimp and am not getting it. Normally ESC is my go-to girl for matters such as this (and in fact she designed me a kickass vertical banner), but she’s on vacation. So, I ask you, my friends, if you could help us out. This is what we need:
A horizontal banner, 760 pixels wide, 100 pixels tall. It needs to have our shop name, Savvy Brooklyn, on it (ESC did this in some cool piratey looking script that glowed using GIMP on the vertical banner. I still have no idea how she did it, but it was awesome.). It should also have the Brooklyn Bridge and a Jolly Roger on it. I’ve got a pretty decent shot of the Brooklyn Bridge that I took myself over here (there are a couple other pics of the Bridge in that set as well) and an image search for Jolly Roger on Google should yield a ton of results. If you’re interested, or can teach gimpy me to do it with GIMP (we gots no Photoschop cos it’s expensive), let me know!

I found a Talk Like a Pirate Day module for the game server, so I took a vote–the majority of the players want that puppy fired up so I’ll turn it on a day or two before the 19th.
Oh, and I fergot–I have a GIMP-savvy buddy. I’ll ask her to take a looksee.
Graphics is not my strong suit at all. Now, if you needed music for you site, I could help out.
I downloaded GIMP as well. But I’ve yet to get anything decent out of it. Not the programs fault mind- I’m just having a hard time figuring the darn thing out!

Okay, I will see what I can come up for ya, I tend to use gimp a great deal you want it vertical though? What format do you need finish product in? Tiff, jpeg, other?

Okay another question for ya, i made a Jolly Roger of my own but instead of bones it has crossed muskets behind skull. It is a 3D compy made image instead of a illistration, would that be acceptable to use, so that way I know I am not having copyright issues (I am planning on using your Brooklyn bridge piccy)
The Pirates knocked the Cubs outta first place — is that what you mean? It’s all moot though, ’cause whoever wins the Nat’l League will lose to the Wild Card AL Yanks.
Yeah, I don’t know what your post is about with GIMP and pixels and Etsy, so I’m just baseballing it up.
