Our work servers hated me this morning. Weren’t letting emails from Aimee, ESC, and Sloth through (and I need those emails people. I need them to stay sane.), weren’t letting me access Gmail, weren’t letting me find out what song just played on the radio. I know other people were suffering as well, but really it was all about me. Everything is about me, because we are ten days from my thirtieth birthday. And just in time for that event, I’ve caught a hellacious case of apathy and ennui.

For starters, I can’t figure out what the hell I want to do for my birthday. At first, I was full of plans. I was going to go to New Orleans! I was going to go with Jordana and Lori! Then a bunch of things happened (including Lori being in a show in West Virginia for all of September and October, and MISSY, YOU ARE SO OUT OF MY WILL FOR MISSING MY BIRTHDAY. ) and suddenly we pushed off New Orleans till March. Which is cool, that means I have more time to scrape money together.

Then, we were like “Wait, didn’t we talk about going to a casino for your thirtieth? Didn’t we think of that last year? Let’s go to a casino! Let’s gamble!” Except Atlantic City is just sad and Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun (the casinos in Connecticut) just weren’t doing it for me. Plus, a casino birthday is not so baby-friendly, and I would like my monkey - I mean, goddaughter - to be a part of the festivities.

Then, we were going to go to the Spiegeltent and catch Absinthe, Absinthe of the magical snatches. But we looked yesterday and dude, that’s $69. $69 times four for me, Rick, J, and Thabs. That’s a lot. Also, while browsing the Spiegeltent website, I realized that I had missed Lady Sovereign, and that pissed me off. I like Sov, and I’m thinking she would have kicked ass live. *sigh*

The apathy and ennui settled in around my shoulders. Maybe I would just go to the Bronx Zoo for my birthday. I like the zoo. But Jordana, sensing how close I was to just staying in my house all day like a recluse, said that we would have a party, and drinks, and who knows what else, but goddammit, we are celebrating my birthday! So we’re working on…um, I think it’s Plan D.

And I will spend the evening doing laundry with my friends ennui and apathy. Because there’s nothing like laundry when you’re just feeling pleh about life. Also, there’s nothing like clean underwear, something which I am lacking as of tomorrow. Caught between the proverbial rock and the hard place, I am.

Here, here’s a baby to distract us all:

Tummy Time

It’s blurry, but I love that smile.

You know, I can’t even remember what I did for my 30th birthday. Oh wait! I played with my week old baby!

At this stage it’s a little late to have a kid though, so I got nothing.

Unless you all want to pile into a car and visit me! I’ll throw you a party, I promise!

That baby is sooooooo cute. And I hate children.

But if you’re doing something publicly for your birthday, lemme know.

Birthdays, especially major birthday milestones, do bring about the agenbite of ennui. But surely SURELY there is something you’ve never done before that you can do on your 30th to usher in the magical twirties. I refuse to believe that in all of New York, there is nothing so appealing as clean laundry to help you commemorate this occasion. In fact, I challenge you to come up with 30 things you’ve always wanted to do but never had the chance…

I second Kendra’s challenge.

The gauntlet has been thrown down, girl. Now GO!

ESC~I have a birthday tiara that makes me look a little like a showgirl, that could fit the theme.

Vince~Uhhhh…no. Sorry, doing the Spin-Off in Central Park the day before my birthday, no time to go to your neck of the woods and be back for work. But thanks!

Retro~If you wanted to see the baby (who is indeed cute in person), you could come to the Plan D par-tay. It’s happening probably in the afternoon of the 30th. Let me know if you’re interested and I’ll keep you up to date on the details.

Kendra~That sounds suspiciously like a meme. But, I need more definition. Do they have to be wild things, or can they be mundane? Like “Visit such and such a place.”?

Aimee~Bandwagon-jumper. ;)

It does sound like a cheap meme, ganked from myspace, from a tween who answers 50% of the questions with, “Who comes up with these things????”

My idea of a Dirty Thirty would include both the sublime and the ridiculous. More like a scavenger hunt of places you’ve never been, stunts you’ve never pulled. Here’s just a few things, I, myself, have never done:

1. Smoked a cigar
2. Used “Esmeralda” as my Starbucks name.
3. Tried on shoes at Nordstrom’s, which I hear is pretty fantastic.
4. Been to one of those private karaoke booth places.
5. Hugged a token collector at the subway OH SHOOT WAIT I HAVE. Okay, cross that one out….

No, I totally get that!!! A hundred years ago, on the Rosanne show, Dan held a newspaper. It was The Sycamore News. I worked there and thought that was the shit! Turns out, one of our readers saw it too, and took a screen shot, had it framed and brought it into our office, where it probably still hangs today.

Have a great weekend!
