“Teenagers scare the living shit out of me!” September 24, 2007 ~ 9:58 am

Posted by Julie in : Coupledom, Reviews, Rick , trackback

Rick and I spent an unholy amount of time this weekend flipping back and forth between VH1 Classic and Fuse. On VH1, we found Metal Mania, where I could relive my misspent youth. (I know he was awed that I still remember all the words to “I Remember You,” and I’m pretty sure he was impressed that I still have Warrant’s Cherry Pie on cassette. Try as I might, I could not lay hands on Poison’s Flesh and Blood. It has to be around somewhere, I would not have thrown that gem out.) On Fuse, we found a treasure trove of catchy songs and Rick learned about emo (he saw his first My Chemical Romance video). I have been alternating between singing MCR’s “Teenagers” and Killswitch Engage’s cover of “Holy Diver” all morning.

What did we learn? That music videos are still completely overblown. But now they can do the overblowing with computers and it doesn’t look like the video cost $5 to make. Ah, technology.

Wow–I have no idea WTF you’re talking about. None whatsoever.

Are you not getting my emails? I’ve sent at least 3. I’m getting yours. The last one was “does my server suck?” (or something like that). I’m thinking yeah, it does.

I so love watching Metal: the history of metal. Did you see Rob Halford in the early days with really long hair and KK Downing looking like a flower child? VH1 classic totally rules.

I can’t believe someone covered Holy Diver! Though I can’t imagine it being all emo and stuff. Then again, I have trouble associating the guy that played guitar on that album with the guy playing guitar in Def Lep ;).

Oh hey–speaking of music (which I assume you are, because Vince it talking about something that sounds sort of music-related), have you heard this new guy Mika? He has a song right now called “Grace Kelly”, and I swear to you guys, he is channeling Freddy Mercury! I’m IN LOVE with this guy’s voice and style! No kidding, it’s like getting a brand new Queen song all the way in 2007. So amazing. I can’t wait to hear if the rest of the album is as good.

Aimee~Yeah, Brian May talked about Mika on his blog a while back - the guy is totally going for the Freddie sound.

Vince~Just because Viv now looks like a poof… ;) I’m pretty sure you can find the new video on YouTube. Just type in Killswitch Engage “Holy Diver” as your search term. The video is *so* freakin’ Spinal Tap that it’s awesome.

Aimee~Yes, my server blows. No emails in all morning. Shoot me one over at Gmail.

Who doesn’t remember the lyrics to “I Remember You?” Suh! That’s a tragedy! I know them allllllllll by heart.

Speaking of Heart, my new favorite flashback song is “There’s The Girl” by Heart.

Also, I, uh………..downloaded a bunch of Richard Marx this morning. Shoulda known better!! (Than to fall in love with yooooooooo….)

Sloth~I met Richard Marx once, at an anti-nuclear power plant rally when I was 11. I think I still have his autograph somewhere… Oh, and Rick gets a pass from knowing hair metal songs. He was in his mid-late 20s when they came out. I don’t know all the words to Rihanna, so I can’t expect him to know all the words to “Something to Believe In.”

You’re right. That video was funny! Not a bad version of the song either. Now I need to go and get the original album. “Your just a rainbow in the dark!”

8. Vince - September 24, 2007

BTW, if you watch the original video, it makes the Killswitch Engage video even funnier!

I KNEW they’d find a use for computers someday!!!! ;)

Hi – I saw a comment that you left on my friend the FemiKnitMafia’s blog. I wanted to email you a question, but I can’t seem to find your email address. If it’s not too much trouble, can you drop me a line at aswiminknits AT yahoo DOT com?
Thanks!
