Notes from the Couch January 4, 2008 ~ 11:20 am

I have learned how to shut off the commentary on the Tiger Woods golf game. Not coincidentally, my game has significantly improved. And yes, I am playing golf, because on the Wii, all games are fun! There is a game where my character rides a knitted cow and knocks over scarecrows, and believe it or not that is the most entertaining game I have ever played. Golf, while not involving knitting, cows, or scarecrows, actually becomes interesting on Wii.

Rick especially likes the Wii because it is his accomplice in his evil plan of getting me to go golfing with him. When he mentioned that maybe I could take a lesson or two when we’re in Florida, the word “okay” might accidentally have dropped from my lips. I blame the Wii and the beer I was drinking at the time. Beer goggles: responsible for making you believe that ugly people are shaggable and for making golf look like an acceptable pastime.

On a totally non-Wii related note (I know, go ahead and gasp, I’ll be here when you’re done) the Iowa caucuses? Turned out exactly as I would have liked on the Democratic front. Barack Obama in the lead, John Edwards in second. I have been saying for months that I’d like to see an Obama-Edwards ticket, maybe it might actually happen. I am noticing a huge division about it in my office. Everyone in their thirties and younger is for Barack, those above are for well…everyone else. Biden, Edwards, Hillary, you name it. If Barack can capitalize on the young voter demographic though, I think he might have it. In the meantime, I went over to his website and downloaded a ringtone so that every time my phone rings, I subliminally spread the Obama message. “Obama, Obama, O, O, O!” It’s downright catchy.

Game with a knitted cow? What’s it called? I need it.

Grace~It’s on the Wii Play game. It’s really a mini-game called “Charge!”, completely mindless. The funny thing is that everyone who has played it at my house (Jordana, her husband, Rick, The Youngest) has said “Hey, look! The cow is knitted!” Rick pointed out that if they didn’t know me, they probably wouldn’t have known it was knitted.

My mom came up with a way to make the game better, actually. I was explaining it to her and she asked “Do you have to knit the cow?”. A lightbulb went on over my head at that. I wish I knew how to write game software.

Maybe with Wii golf you’ll have a knitted golf cart and run over duffers! ;)

Some friends of ours had a Wii. I tried the golf and bowling. Liked them both but once I found the “sweet spot” for my swing, it got a little boring because the challenge wasn’t really there anymore. I have discovered, however, I do really like the Rock Band game even if some of the music on it kind of sucks. A bunch of us spent twelve hours playing it at a new year’s party. lol

I didn’t get to take part in the caucus but I too was very happy with the outcome and would really like to see a ticket with Obama and Edwards. Here’s to that becoming a reality! :)

We don’t have Wii Play. Yet.

My fellah has a Wii — so is the Wii Play a whole game you have to buy, separately from the system? It sounds like fun!

I like the golf game, too. I haven’t mastered putting, though. I’d be on par every time if it weren’t for that.

The cow game rules! I love that! And watch out. I always said I’d never learn golf. Now that I’ve started, I may be hooked. I actually can’t wait to get my clubs out.

Did you hear Dodd and Biden already dropped out of the race? It’s too bad, I kind of liked Biden though he didn’t have a chance. I’m hoping Edwards gets the nomination. I really like him. I think Obama is all charisma and no substance. I’d like a Prez with a little more experience in Washington to get things done. I heard/read somewhere something quite telling: you would never hire someone with no experience on his resume for a position of responsibility. Why is this a plus for Obama in the most responsible position in the country?

Cobbalicious~Welcome! Wii Play is a game that you can buy. The gent at Best Buy talked me into by saying “It has another Wiimote in it.” So for basically $10 over what I would have paid for the second Wiimote that I was going to have to buy anyway, I got 9 mini-games that keep us entertained. Some are better than others, and there are a few total clinkers, but the cow riding game was totally worth the money. Maybe not if you don’t need the extra Wiimote, tho.

Grace~Oh, but you need to. Well, take that with a grain of salt. You need to if you need another Wiimote or you like racing games featuring jumping knitted cows that can run each other off the knitted road.

FD~I am in need of Guitar Hero III for Wii. I didn’t even know Rock Band was an option for Wii…I might need that too, for nights when we’re all sick of playing golf.

Seamus~Funny you should say that. I’ve asked Rick several times if I could join him on the golf course just so I could drive the cart. He always says no.

The cow smashing game is definitely the best one in the play package!

I walk around my house all day long saying, “NICE ON!”

How do you turn the commentary off? It’s making me an overly polite idiot.
