Stress is the new ecchinacea June 2, 2008 ~ 4:39 pm
Posted by Julie in : Uncategorized , trackbackApparently, stress is good for me. Because the second the stress let up? I caught me a cold. A lovely summer time, my wastebasket is half-full of used Kleenexes and my nose is rivaling Rudolph’s for scarlet luminosity, fuck me I’m dying on the couch in the 80* heat cold. 80* by itself isn’t bad, but when Butchie, my landlady’s jack-of-all-trades comes over to reseal the roof and I have to shut the windows to keep the cats and myself from dying of toxic fumes, that’s when we get a little fussy about the heat.
Plus, we is out of juice and shit, and there is only so much water I can drink when I feel like crap. Rick is so getting sent to the store tonight when he gets home. I would go, but I don’t have the energy to walk 6 blocks and back when my head feels like this.

Aw man. That SUCKS!
*ahem*
during periods of high stress, the body kicks up the immune response. during this time, you have SUPER IMMUNITY! your immune system is working overtime to keep you healthy during stressful times.
however, this can’t last. after prolonged stress, OR when the period of stress is over, the immune system loses its temporary super powers. and actually becomes very weak, leaving you susceptible to whatever bug comes your way.
that all being said…it still sucks. vitamin C, hot tea, zinc, and whatever comfort foods you want until you feel better.
What ESC said. And also, chocolate. Because chocolate makes everything better.
Hope you feel better soon!
Aimee~Yes it does.
ESC~This is why I am glad you are my friend. So you can explain these things to me. Interestingly enough, one of the main people who causes me stress at my job today told me I should take better care of myself so I don’t get sick. What I wanted to say to her: “Well maybe if you quit causing my stress, I wouldn’t get sick.”
Grace~Chocolate is very helpful.
