Isn’t that what godmothers are for? June 5, 2008 ~ 2:55 pm

Posted by Julie in : The Girls , trackback

I just went out on my lunch hour and bought my godchild fun plastic toys for her birthday, which is this weekend. Little People farm and pirates (in my head, sometimes the pirates decide they want to come to the farm to mess with the animals), and a VTech baby guitar so she can play guitar like Uncle Rick. The guitar was an afterthought, mostly because I am not sure I will be done with her sweater by this weekend (it’s supposed to be 90*, so I’m sure she won’t care, but still), but also because I was walking through the aisles at Target and couldn’t resist something that when you hit the baby whammy bar, said “Sheep! Sing it! Baaaa!!” “Ducks! Sing it! Quack!!”

Jordana and Thabiso should just be glad that I didn’t decide to buy Samang the Radio Flyer ride-on-rocketship. That thing didn’t have an off button, the guitar does.

All young children should have musical instruments to annoy the snot out of their parents. Just remember, though, paybacks are hell.

Pirates are totally cool! I’d have them rape the fields and pillage the women.

As long as the thing has removable batteries, we’re good until the kid is about 5 and figures it out.

Ditto Vince–Pirates are WAY cool!

The Retro Rocket has an off switch–it’s on the bottom. Vintage Toddler was scared of the sounds it made until he was nearly 2. I almost gave it away twice. Then one day he decided it was the absolute best way to get anywhere in the house from his room, and now he won’t be parted from it, but the sound stays off.

I’m betting the guitar provides at LEAST as much parental annoyance, though. :-)

Vintage~They need to post that prominently on the damned box - it would totally boost sales. Oh, well, there’s always Christmas. :D

Aimee~The farm has removable batteries. I am not sure if the guitar does, but it definitely has an off-switch. And a “quiet” setting in addition to the normal loud setting.

Vince~This is why I got her a guitar instead of drums. And also, that’s what I see the pirates doing. When Samang learns to talk, she is going to have tales to tell. “Samang, why is the pirate stabbing the horse?” “Because that’s what he does when Mama Julie plays with it. I learned it by watching her.”

As a step-parent, I can officially say that you are VERY naughty. But also probably well loved by small children. :D

Grace~Mama and Baba bought her an African drum for her birthday, so I do not feel bad at all. :)
