Epic fail

Yesterday, we couldn’t log on to email at work. A bit of a problem, since we receive requests from students and faculty via email all day. Someone called over to ITS and we found out that the room that houses the servers had lost its air conditioning. Apparently, this is a problem. Apparently, when servers don’t have things to cool them down? They get angry and lose data and shit. (Hey, anyone who emailed me at work yesterday-you know who you are-sorry. I wasn’t ignoring you. The server was just having a hot flash and being moody.) And sometimes in addition to losing email, you also lose your access to documents saved on a shared network drive.

Good thing I had lots of paperwork to do yesterday, because otherwise it would have been a dead loss.

  • You have no idea how much servers hate to get hot like that. Believe me, in my world, that’s a MAJOR deal.

  • This server hates to get hot, sweaty, gross, hot, unless of course it involves sex, and then sweaty hot is good. I guess you weren’t talking about my kind of server, were you?

  • Nannerbelle~No. I was talking about the kind with wires and circuits. But I will keep that information about your kind of server in mind for the future. Could come in handy.

Vince~I am sure the head of ITS was going ballistic during the problem. I can almost see the vein pulsing in his forehead now.
