Fiber is good for you. July 28, 2008 ~ 11:39 am
Posted by Julie in : Craftiness Is Next To Godliness, Random Insanity , trackbackHey, you know what’s awesome? When you realize that your refrigerator door is open about an inch when you wake up to pee in the middle of the night. And then? When you open the fridge in a panic and realize that everything in it is room temperature and the door has probably been open for hours and your electric bill is going to be sky-high because the fridge has been trying to cool your entire apartment for hours because of a stupid 12 pack of Diet Dr. Pepper that kept it from closing completely? And it’s 4:30 am and you’ve had to throw out most of the crap in your fridge? That is made of the awesome. Except not so much. Yeah, that happened Thursday night/Friday morning. I am mostly over it now, but still cringing every time I think of the electric bill I will be getting next month. Ouch. On to happier subjects.
Since I spent a large part of yesterday manually updating Word Press to 2.6 (*rude finger gesture at hackers*), and my Flickr Photo Album plugin works again, I can now show you pictures! Without having to link to my photosets! Woohoo! Pics behind the cut.
Sometimes I actually get my act together and spin. Like this!
That is Cloverleaf Farms Blue Faced Leicester (or Biffle, as I like to call it) in the “Sapphires” colorway. Look, ma, I actually made a semi-balanced heavy worsted weight yarn!
And then I finally started playing with the Woollee Winder Mom gave me for Christmas. I took this:
And turned it into this:
After the WW learning curve that involved sending one of those singles back through the wheel to remove some twist, I have an almost-balanced worsted weight! Yay! C*EYE*BER Fibers superwash merino in “Fire.” I call it “Flames.” And I know an orange-loving teenager that will be getting this knit up into some form or another for Christmas. Still have to set the twist on both of these, but that will involve scouring the bathroom sink and tub (I am not letting my happy yarn get soap scum on it), so it’s going to wait a little bit.
Oh, and I still knit, too. I finished a pair of these for Rick’s mom, who loved her Christmas socks:
(Go, Obama! Sorry, for some reason the plugin isn’t letting me put in a picture of the pair. Weird.)
And right now I’m working on a pair of Primavera socks for myself in Dream in Color Smooshy yarn, “Some Summer Sky” colorway:
Yeah, that was taken with my camera phone on a lunch break to show Plurk what I was up to…sorry for the quality. That reminds me, I need to pick up a cardboard box for the lightbox I want to build.
Sometime soon, pictures of my goddaughter hanging from monkey bars. Because she is just that strong. This concludes your fiber content for the day.

Beautiful yarn & socks. (I need a “WOOT” emoticon here or a dancing banana - how soon Plurk spoils us!)
I love the blue and orange, and your handspun is lovely!
Agrees with Plain Jane. A dancing banana would be perfect.
(((hugs))) on the fridge. We had a couple episodes like that with our old fridge. Only in those instances the fridge stopped working in the middle of the night and everything was ruined….but the motor was still sucking down juice but not cooling. It’s not fun.
What sock yarn did you use for Rick’s mom’s socks? I’m digging the colorway.
And your handspun is awesome!
Grace~It’s Koigu, picked up at MDSW in 2007. Not sure what the colorway is since they come numbered, not named. But she loves the purple.
Yarn Love~The having to buy groceries to replace the ones lost irked me. But the thought of that electric bill? Makes me sick.
Aimee~ http://www.plurk.com/static/emoticons/silver/dance.gif (Hope that worked.)
Lea and Jane~Thanks!
Damn, it didn’t.
Grasshopper left the door to the freezer cracked open last week. Similar issue. Luckily not everything was ruined but I had a lot of water on the basement floor and threw out about half the stuff in there. Kids, gotta love em.
I’m still totally impressed with your spinning and knitting skilz.
