Gold medalist August 27, 2008 ~ 7:35 am

This year’s Ravelympics were a triumph for me: a 200% better showing than I had at the 2006 Winter Games. This year I medalled in not one, but two events:

bobsock

The Sock Put. This year’s attempt was a pair of Basic Sock Recipes (pattern by the Yarn Harlot) in Lorna’s Laces Shepherd Sport, “Uptown” colorway. They were knit with Knit Picks Harmony dpns, 2.5 mm size.

They remind me of blue raspberry popsicles and lollipops. I want to lick them. Interesting to note, the yarn definitely bloomed after washing - softened up and not nearly so compact.

And then because I was nuts? I did another event. Well, I wasn’t really nuts, I just jumped off the cliff with the rest of the knitting lemmings who were doing multiple projects. But I kept it realistic, I kept it simple, and I medalled again:

boblace

Laceweight Long Jump, Amy R. Singer’s “Montego Bay Scarf” (which was promptly renamed “The Bad Wolf Bay Scarf” in honor of Team TARDIS and the Doctor) in Handmaiden Sea Silk, “Autumn” colorway. Knit Picks Options nickel plated, US Size 4, 24″ cable.

(Sorry that one’s out of focus, I was doing this all with self timer without a remote, so I would hit the button, it would focus on the wall behind me, then I would jump into the picture. It is not a perfect process at all.)

This might be my favorite Finished Object ever. I knit a bunch of it while watching episodes of Doctor Who, (sixteen of them, to be precise), so it soaked up some Who-mojo. It was a supremely easy knit, and very fast. It also goes perfectly with my coloring, which is not always a given (red hair and fair skin with a pink undertone means some colors just do not go with me). My only complaint is that it’s already starting to get a little halo after two wearings. I wanted it to stay crisp and halo-less forever. But I still love it.

So there we go. I’m not exactly the Michael Phelps of knitting, but things do look a lot nicer from the podium!

Congrats dear! Even if I cannot see your awards or projects because the work computer security screens it to just empty boxes.

Absolutely love the scarf! And the model’s wicked hot as well. But then again I always had a thing for redheads.

Congrats on the medals. Enjoy until the next Olympics. I assume your goals will be higher next time around?

Woot! Woot! And my birthday profile said I’m never satisfied and I’m always pushing limits. Imagine that.
