The Lunchmeat Cowboy July 21, 2004 ~ 1:56 pm

My cat Joe (yeah, he’s named after JTE) is 11.  He’s all black, and very vocal, just like a Siamese.  Joe has never really had an interest in people food.  He might want to lick it, just to feel like he’s not missing anything, but that’s the extent of it.  Until the past two weeks.

Suddenly, he’s decided that people food is good.  Julie’s having a hotdog?  He wants some.  And he eats it, which is the surprising thing.  I figured I would give him a little piece just to show him he doesn’t want it, but nooo.  I had trout, he wanted trout.  I gave him some.  He’s a cat.  He likes fish.  Okay.  Last night I was muching on a piece of ham, he wanted that.  And he yowls to let you know it.  His weirdest new taste so far is maple syrup.  I have no idea where that came from, but if Jesse can eat Oreos, I guess Joe can eat maple syrup.

I’m not giving him too much of any of these foods, mind you.  Just a taste.  But he’s eating it, and that’s the weird part.  Is he going through a kitty mid-life crisis?  I don’t know.  But he’s putting the Naked Cowboy to shame “singing” for his food.  His singing is why I named him Joe in the first place, come to think of it.  It could be worse, I guess.  My mom has a cat that eats spaghetti and mashed potatoes.  I just live with the Lunchmeat Cowboy.
