Blue sky day November 15, 2004 ~ 2:39 pm

A glimpse of September sky through some trees. And my knee. And yes, I meant to do that. It made me laugh.

Today you get my funny picture because after all the shit that’s been flying around here lately, we need to laugh again. And because I just came back in from taking a nap in the sun in the place that I captured on digital here. It’s almost 60 degrees out today, and sunny with a gorgeous blue sky. And as I often say at this time of year, if I can have a few semi-warm days with a blue sky like this through the winter, it won’t be so bad. Blue sky days make it much easier to get through the rest of the blah weather.

Had a pretty kickass weekend. I got to go to rehearsal for Hemingway, which was wonderful. Larry has written a great play, and he’s a kick to work with. His son, Ben, is directing, my friend Mickey is stage managing (we both worked with Larry on Teddy Tonight!), and we have a great ASM, Lanita. It’s a very informal rehearsal process, but great because we’ve all got a say in what’s going on in the room. Sometimes a laid-back atmosphere is just what you need to get a lot of work done. Yesterday, for instance, Larry read through the script to make sure we had all the changes he’d done so far, and then we talked it out, page by page, to make sure it all worked. I love doing table work like this - I get to speak up about the structure of the play and show why there should be a dramaturg in the rehearsal room. A couple of times Larry even said that he hadn’t thought about a point I raised before, which is music to my ears. Now if he just goes over the preliminary program insert I mocked up and lets me know what he thinks, we’ll be in business.

Other than that…I got to spend a fair amount of time with Rick this weekend, and that lovely man made me breakfast yesterday. Not in bed, since I was already up and working on my program insert, but breakfast nonetheless. And he lent an ear to some of the crap I was putting in the program insert. In my imagination, I always wanted to be with a significant other that I could talk with about my job. Doesn’t sound like much, but when you consider how many people don’t know what a dramaturg is, let alone understand why they are helpful to have in rehearsals, it’s actually asking for a lot. Good thing I’m dating an actor! And that is the only time you will ever hear me say that.

Tonight it looks like I’m going to see Lori in a staged reading directed by our friend Taylor. Don’t know how good it will be, but I’m there for you, La! And if it’s no good, I’m kicking yer ass.
