Uncle Walter July 26, 2006 ~ 9:52 pm
Posted by Julie in : About a Julz, Politically Incorrect, Story Time , trackbackI’ve been watching a PBS documentary about Walter Cronkite this evening and I remembered a conversation I had with my mom about him a couple of years ago:
Julie: For some reason I find Walter Cronkite’s voice really relaxing to listen to.
Mom: (laughing)
Julie: What?
Mom: (still laughing)
Julie: What’s so funny about that?
Mom: When you were a baby and were really fussy because of colic and earaches, we couldn’t find anything to make you stop crying. So we would sit you in front of the TV for the CBS Evening News, and Walter Cronkite would always make you stop. You thought he was talking just to you.
Julie: Well, that would explain it.
Bonus points to Walter Crokite for using a PBS Documentary about him to slam Dubya and Iraq. I knew I liked him for more than his voice. Now if only Dubya would listen to him like LBJ did and step the hell down.

Damn, I missed it. It must have been cool.
What is it with you and older men?
Vince~My Daddy was an older man. It must be genetic.
We used to put my youngest brother on the dryer in his baby seat and the noise and vibration would knock him right out. He now has to sleep with some kind of noise polution!
This is so funny - very subliminal or something! Now you got me thinking on how much babies can learn/absorb… when they are babies!
Cronkite does have a great voice though. Very authorative yet soothing at the same time.
Off topic, “Into The West” is designed for history buffs. It’s all about their lives on the trail, Lakota traditions and how they all lived etc..
Seamus~See, it sticks with you! I had no idea why Walter Cronkite would be so comforting because Dan Rather took over as anchor when I was 3 - I have no memories of Uncle Walter doing the evening news. After this conversation, all became clear.
Lisa B~It was really funny last night, because I had been pretty stressed all day and as soon as I heard his voice, it all just faded away. I was totally relaxed. And it sounds like I really need to check out “Into The West!”
Emily used to toddle to the TV screen and coo “Daadddy!” whenever Jon Stewart came on. She still loves it when I watch The Daily Show.
Smart kid.
I was a binky gal myself. So attached was I to my favorite binky, that my father actually cut one open to see if there were drugs inside.
Have Rick say “and that’s the way it is” during sex
I swear I first read that Seamus put his brother IN the dryer. I didn’t even blink, but I thought it was odd, ha ha!
I had a strange crush on Mickey Gilley, and my parents, being hippies, were frightened for me. I grew out of it. But I still blush when I hear the name…
Lyric is going to feel the same way about Ozzy Osbourne for the rest of her life. When she cries in the car, Ryan turns up Ozzy for her, and she calms right down.
Plus she heard him live while in the womb. You can’t beat that.
Oh, that is hilarious!
About the Piss Crusader, only things I know are white vinegar and Shout. White vin neutralizes ammonia and Shout has the same enzyme killer that those fancy pet enzyme sprays do. *smooch* I know how annoying it is.
I always felt that way about Tom Brokaw.
We had Pierre Berton.
He yelled alot.
That would be kind of mean of my mom to do.
Then again…I am kind of riddled with anxiety for no discernible reason….
Hmmmm.
