Frog Pond December 19, 2006 ~ 11:55 am

Posted by Julie in : Craftiness Is Next To Godliness, Technobabble , trackback

When I got home last night, I discovered that I did in fact have another skein of Cascade 220 to match the first. Apparently I need to do two things: get my fixation with Cascade 220 under control and stop collecting it and ALWAYS check that colors match when knitting in dim lighting.

So, faced with 7 inches of a scarf knit in the wrong color and a skein of the right color, I did the right thing and frogged the 7 inches. I won’t lie, it was painful. But I will be much happier with the finished product since I’ve done it right. The pattern calls for the scarf to be 55 inches long, and it’s currently 47 and a wee bit. I’ve taken the day off to get it finished (what the hell good is annual time if you can’t use it when you want?), and since it’s only 10:45, I’m confident I can get this scarf done, the labels for it and my sis-in-law’s scarf done, everything wrapped, packed up, and to the post office by the time it closes. And while I’m there, I’ll pick up stamps so I can get the Christmas cards out tomorrow. Then I just need to finish four more sets of stitch markers for the girls in my SnB by tomorrow night. Then it’s all downhill, just finishing Lori’s present and knitting some fingerless gloves for the Youngest by Monday morning.

Totally doable.

ETA: Big Brother’s scarf was finished at 3. The whole package for him and the sis-in-law was wrapped, packed, and off to the post office by 3:30. Unfortunately it took an hour waiting in line to get the damn thing posted, but the nice man at the counter assures me that the box will reach them by Friday. This is good. Now my hands hurt.

Anyone who hasn’t sent me their address but wants a Christmas card should click the little button on the right with my email addy and do so. I’m not guaranteeing that they’ll be there on Christmas, but what the hell, you’ll still get a card.

Vince and Boogie, who are obviously my tech gurus: when you use another program to import CDs, is it easy to transfer it all over to iTunes? Because even with the CD error repair on, I’ve still got skips. According to the iTunes forums, this is a common problem with 7.0, but I don’t feel like listening to songs with five million skips. I need a way around. Help?

importing itunes, skeins of yarn… throw in a little calculus and you’ll hit the trifecta of confusing me.

Happy holidays, Julie.

Julz, it’s been a while since I used Itunes. However, I ALWAYS used it with mp3s. I’d rip my CDs to the PC to whatever directory I wanted, then go into ITunes to add it to my library. You should be able to do the same. Truthfully, I find that Media Player 10 or 11 does a great job ripping CDs. As a matter of fact, my guys just got me Twisted Sister’s Twisted Christmas CD (yes, they actually did a CD of Christmas songs). I just ripped it with Media Player 10 to mp3 and it sounds great. Not sure what format you’re using in ITunes, but give it a try. If you use Media Player, make sure you go to Tools, Options, then the Rip Music tab. Change the format to MP3 and pick a location to put the files. It’s usually the My Music folder. You’ll also want to make sure it can go out to the internet to get album info so you get all the track information. Call me if you need tech support.

BTW, you’ve never heard Deck the Halls until you hear Twisted Sister do it.

Vince, you’re making me drool here now that I have speakers. Julie, you are too–all that slutty knitty talk!

That’s funny, Boogie is my tech guru for iTunes as well ;-)

5. The Feminist Mafia - December 19, 2006

Wow! Nice work. I’m impressed.

Dude, an hour waiting at the PO? I’m so screwed tomorrow.

Also, I’m getting an iPod for Christmas…and I’m afraid it will be too techy for me to handle. So figure all this shit out and then YOU can become my tech guru, mmkay?

I’m glad it’s all coming together. I hope your arms are doing well as you SnB and frog and blog and whatever else you need to do before the big day. :D

That’s an awful lotta knitting for those poor hands/wrists of your’s, Ms. Julie. Are they screaming at you or has a truce been made to allow this holiday knitting?
Happy Yule Eve!

Two offers to send money already. You and Vince are something else! I love your kindness, but I know it’ll all work out. It always seems to.
Some say “No good deed goes unpunished” but others say “Good things come to those wait” I’m waiting this one out. It’ll be fine. Thank you sweetheart!

Lois runs off singing, “I’m keeing the faith, yeah!!!…”

Lois~Okay, but if you change your mind, let me know. Those kids have been so well-adjusted about everything this year (moving, toilets, hit and runs) that I’d love to help get them something for Christmas. :)

Jenny~We are at a truce. I didn’t knit the rest of last night (spent the evening cooking and making stitch markers instead) and they agreed to knit again today. Just finished my friend Lori’s present at lunch. Now I just need to get the Youngest’s done - totally doable. Then after Christmas I can finish my mom’s shawl, and then, THEN, oh happy day, start some stuff for myself again. And something for Jordana’s baby. And Rick’s sweater. Riiiiight.

Lois~You’re turning into a Make Mine Mike with all the punning and rhyming.

Katey~Deal. And good luck at the PO.

Lefty~It was sheer dogged determination. And a lot of movie watching.

Lisa~It’s good to have people on hand for this, innit?

Serra~That’s what I’m here for, to provoke drooling. Just ask Rick. ;)

Vince~I heard the TS version of “O Come All Ye Faithful” this morning. I might have to buy that CD. Question: doesn’t iTunes work in a non-MP3 format?

Michael~If I threw in calculus, I’d confuse myself. No trifecta for you. But Happy Hanukkah!

11. KtP - December 20, 2006

Okay, it must be NY POs, cuz I was in and out in 10 min. But I thought of you!

12. Vince - December 20, 2006

Check your email.

13. Seamus - December 21, 2006

I was wondering how those hands were holding up!!!

You lost me at pond! ;)

14. Julie - December 21, 2006

Seamus~”Frogging” is a knitting term for ripping out large chunks of knitting. It’s called frogging because you “rip it, rip it.” (Clever, huh?) So when there’s a lot of frogging to be done, you say it’s going to the frog pond. (And randomly enough, as I typed that, the radio station I listen too played frog noises. I have no idea why.)

Vince~Now check yours.

KtP~Lucky beotch.
