Under Pressure January 24, 2007 ~ 4:42 pm

Posted by Julie in : Craftiness Is Next To Godliness , trackback

I knit tightly. I knew that. But now my poor little needles are suffering - the bamboo size 2 dpns have a definite curve to them. I hate to take my frustrations out on innocent bamboo. Anyone have an idea on how to fix this?

metal dpns.

love ‘em.

My suggestion is also metal dpns. Except that if you grip the dpns tightly, your hands/wrists are going to hurt again.

Grace nailed why I don’t use metal needles. They have no give and they irritate the Carpal Tunnel. Any other suggestions?

You could try placing something really heavy on them where they curve to try and straighten them out. Not sure it will work but worth a try.

Uh, just plan on replacing them occasionally? Would switching them around help?

Or just freakin’ KNIT LOOSER!

Sorry, other than the obvious, I pretty much suck at this, ha ha!

Take your frustration out on employees instead.

Save the Bamboo!

Gotta knit with a more relaxed grip…for your needles sake as well as your poor hands.

Is this part of that anger thing?

Lori~It’s part of my repressed personality. ;)

Mrs. M~That was awful. But I forgive you.

Sparky~Oh, there’s been plenty of that, but no effect on the needles. ;)

Jenny~I was trying that this morning. I think it’s because I’m knitting Pomatomus, which has YOs on the “corners.” I tend to ladder where the needles meet anyway, so I’m pulling extra tight there to keep the YOs from being gaping holes.

Katey~The bamboo appreciates your support. The employees do not. ;)

Foundme~I try to rotate them so the curve gets unbent, but no dice so far. Grrr.

Vince~Good thought. I will try that when I’m done with these socks.

I did this with a set of plastic circular needles and it worked well–might not work quite so well with bamboo but it could.

Once you’re done with those socks, take the needles, then get a few heavy books and something warm (I used some of those chemical hand warmers hunters use but a heating pad would help too).

Set the needles on a flat surface, cover with warmy-thing, position the needles under it so the curve gets flattened when you set all the books on top. Leave them overnight or so, then see what you have. If it helped, do it some more. If not, then I’m out of suggestions.

Serra~Oooh, good idea! I’ll try that.
