Yeah, the World Needs This May 4, 2004 ~ 11:03 pm

Random Fact. May 4, 2004 ~ 4:16 pm

Today is the 400th anniversary of the Dutch purchasing Manhattan Island for $24 in beads and trinkets. 400 years ago today, the American tradition of the land swindle began, paving the way for Donald Trump. And 400 years ago today, the great Manhattan tradition of bargain hunting was born. ![]()

What happens when you:
1) have nothing to do
2) own a sharp knife
3) have a large lime
4) own a patient cat
5) drink too much tequila
6) and it’s football season?

Happy Cinco de Mayo to me! May 4, 2004 ~ 12:19 am
Posted by Julie in : Daily Grind , comments closedMy iPod mini finally shipped! They say it’s going to get to Rick’s place (I ship stuff there because he has a doorman who can sign for things. I don’t, and thus spend half of my life at the post office when things are delivered to my house.) on May 5th. This morning, it was in Shanghai, China. Except it was actually 8:15 pm there. Then it moved on to Anchorage, Alaska. Where it was 2:15 pm when it arrived. Weird how time differences work, innit?
And I have to wonder, since it’s coming from China, will it have SARS? (And yes, I know how politically incorrect that was. If you wonder why I would say such a thing, you obviously don’t know me as well as you think you do.)
UPDATE: Well, in the course of one short day, the intrepid iPod mini has travelled from Shanghai to Anchorage to Indianapolis to Newark to NYC. Ain’t modern life amazing? Just think how long that journey would have taken even 50 years ago. I envision Cinco de Mayo being spent uploading songs onto the iPod with margarita in hand. ![]()
Sex and the City on TBS May 4, 2004 ~ 12:14 am
Posted by Julie in : Daily Grind , comments closedOne of my favorite shows, Sex and the City, is going to be on TBS starting June 15. I have to admit it, I have no idea how they’re going to pull this off. How do you get around not only the swearing, but the somewhat graphic sex scenes? They’re an integral part of the show. That’s like saying you’re gonna start showing The Sopranos on network TV…well, maybe not.
Although I did watch South Park: Bigger, Longer, Uncut on Comedy Central in the middle of the night Saturday, and to their credit, they didn’t bleep anything. Kinda nice to be able to hear Cartman sing “Kyle’s Mom is a Big Fat Bitch” in all its glory. And speaking of South Park, if anyone can remember the episode that had the singing panda in it and can remember what the hell he was singing, it would make me and my friend Kim really happy if you could leave a comment. It was driving us nuts this weekend because we couldn’t remember.
