Neither here nor there August 5, 2004 ~ 10:01 pm

Neither Coney nor Bronx. I will be spending tomorrow afternoon picking Jordana up from work at 2, and then meeting Tony somewhere and hanging out for the next 6 hours till we go see Caroline or Change. Tony has already called dibs on Caroline, as he says he’s too old to Change. I guess that leaves me with Change. Hmmmm.

So, hey, what the hell. I can go to Coney next weekend. I would go Saturday, but they’re having a massive all-day concert of African music in Prospect Park, and I see myself there enjoying the sun and the music. Cos it’s $3 to get in. Yay, cheap! And then, maybe, just maybe, I’ll go see The Village at the local movie house. Or I’ll crash and burn. Either/or, I’m a winner both ways.

Sting and Annie Lennox are playing at Madison Square Garden on October 19, and I am doing my level best to convince people to come with me. I will see this show if I have to go alone like I did the last time he played the Beacon. It’s just more fun with friends. So I have emailed all my local buddies and put a message on Rick’s answering machine saying “You know how you didn’t know what to get me for my birthday? And you know how you said Sting might not be that bad, especially if he was playing with Annie Lennox? He’s coming back to town three weeks after my birthday. I’m not asking you to pay for my ticket. I’m not even asking you to pay for your ticket. I’ll buy them both. Just come with me.”

Pathetic, huh? But concerts are always more fun with friends, and this one is going to be a blast. I just know it. And I will be there.

I start off my day with the NY Times online. I get emails of the headlines and summaries from them, and then I click and choose which ones I want to read entirely. Today, two jumped out:

Terror Warning Is Said to Lead to New Arrests
By RICHARD W. STEVENSON and DOUGLAS JEHL
The intelligence that lead to the elevation of the terror
threat level is aiding the U.S. and its allies in its
campaign to disrupt terrorist operations, the White House
said.”

(click on the headline if you want to read it) All I have to say is pffft. Of course it is. Because if the White House came up empty again, the people might revolt.

Second, and all sarcasm aside here, is an op-ed piece by Bruce Springsteen. A few weeks ago, we were discussing Linda Ronstadt’s rights to bring politics into her show. Well, Bruce is making the same decision, and he’s stating his reasons in a huge way. And not without poking a little fun at himself. Again, click on the headline if you’re interested…I think it’s wonderfully written (more than I would’ve given Bruce credit for prior to this) and should be read by Dems and Pubs.

OP-ED CONTRIBUTOR
Chords for Change
By BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN
For the last 25 years I have always stayed away from
partisan politics, but this year the stakes have risen too
high to sit the election out.

And that concludes your newsbreak for today.
