Joe, high on catnip. He hit his nose off the chair at least 6 times while I was taking this.
So, with some of our favorite bloggers taking a sabbatical, what are the rest of us to do? Who will we read? Who will help fill our long work days and insomniac nights (and don’t tell me to actually do some work or take some Tylenol PM, it just ain’t the same)?
The past couple of days as I’ve been frantically searching for new posts - just call me OCD - to read, I’ve been checking out my friends’ blogrolls. That’s right, YOU. I’ve been raiding your blogroll for new reads. If you like them, I might too. I’ve also been checking your comments to see who comments on your site and checking their blogs. I’ve been desperate, but it’s yielded fruit. As you can see, my blogroll has increased, even though four of my favorite bloggers have left. (Note, please, that I cannot bear to take their names off of my blogroll, in the hopes that they’ll come back. But I’ve stopped checking their pages everyday. Well, at least Dastard’s and Sloth’s. Michael’s and Lovisa’s might take some more time to wean myself away from. After all, they left so damn recently!) I don’t know how many of these new blogs will stay on the blogroll - I’m test-driving them, if you will - but what the hell. Blogrolls grow and evolve. This is the nature of the blogroll.
Which brings me to my next point, something I’ve found to be true in the blogoverse, as well as real life. You meet people at the right time. And if you don’t meet them at the right time, you get thrown together again later when it is the right time. And if that’s not the right time…well, you get my drift. For example, (and take this in a good way, please, Katey!) I checked out Kate the Peon’s blog a couple of months ago, but didn’t really get hooked. I checked again a couple of weeks ago, and suddenly she’s on my must-read list. Don’t know what the hell the change was (and I’m sure it was in me), but I’ll take it. After all, how many Corporate Peons do we get to know? And she’s not the only one. If I have suddenly appeared on your blog recently, here’s the reason why.
So do yourself a favor. Take a tour of your friends’ blogrolls. That’s how I found Sloth in the first place, and by extension at least half of you. One minute my blogroll was made up of entirely Def Leppard blogs (which, come to think of it, I found all on Senff’s old blog, which I found through the Official Def Leppard site, which…nevermind), the next minute I’m part of an even larger community. And if I stop by and say hi for the first time, you know how I found you!
P.S. - Katey, when I spellcheck, Blogger wants me to replace “Peon” with “Penis”. You dirty girl, you!
